Zyban [Bupropion HCl] Description
Bupropion HCl is an aminoketone; at first it was prescribed to treat depression, but later began to be used as an aid for cessation of smoking.
Bupropion prevents the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain, and is an α3β4-nicotinic receptor antagonist. It's action is believed to reduce the craving for nicotine as well as withdrawal symptoms.
Uses of Zyban
It helps people who want to stop smoking. The medicine is recommended for 7-12 weeks, though some people have stopped smoking within 10 days of this therapy, while others have taken it for a few months. It is meant for adults: who smoke 10 or more cigarettes in a day.
Zyban is not recommended for use in children below 18.
How to Use Zyban
Usually two doses have to be taken daily, but for patients with severe liver cirrhosis, a dose of 150mg is recommended every alternate day. Take the dose exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with water, with or without meals, and should be swallowed whole.
Missed Dose of Zyban
Consult your doctor if you miss a dose. If you do miss a dose, then try to take the missed dose as soon as you can, but if time is nearing for the next dose, then leave the missed dose and take the regular one; don't double your dose.
Side-effects of Zyban
Some of the common, less serious side effects may include:-

Overdose of Zyban

Precautions of Zyban
